Epiphany Welcomes New Priest
Rector - Mother Mary Schrom Breese has been with us as our new rector since October 1st, 2019. Mother Mary and her husband moved to Southeast Kansas from St. Joseph, MO. Mother Mary was the first woman ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Kansas back in 1982 and served as a parish priest in the Dioceses of Kansas, Northwest Texas, and West Missouri for twenty years. She is a board-certified chaplain and, for 16 years, served as the Director of Spiritual Care for a large continuum-of-care retirement community and skilled nursing/rehab facility in St. Joseph. She is delighted to return to the Diocese of Kansas and to parish ministry. "I have always heard that Epiphany, Sedan, is a little 'gem of a parish' and now I am here!" Mother Mary and her husband Sid are living just outside the city limits of Independence. Sid, also a priest, is serving the Episcopal parishes in Independence and Neodesha. Mother Mary and Father Sid have 2 dogs and 3 cats and Mother Mary also has a large toy (dolls, dollhouses, stuffed animals, and Noah's Arks) collection.
Leadership – Epiphany's leadership is fully vested in its Vestry, which is made up of six members: Currently these members are Mary Simpson (Senior Warden); Jacklyn Jones; Martha Davis (Junior Warden); John Simpson; Jenny Loyd (Clerk), and Jill Gray. Charlie Meadows is Treasurer.
The Episcopal Church – also known as the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society, is a part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which includes churches in more than 165 countries. The Episcopal Church is made up of 109 districts (we call them dioceses) in the United States and 16 other nations. We use the Book of Common Prayer as the order for our services. The objective of our common prayer, worship, and teaching is “… to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ.”[1] Book of Common Prayer, p. 855.
